By Ron Krog
Willmar,Mn(Sept 22)July 12,2014 was a tough day for many racers and fans in central Minnesota as Charlie Nelson passed away leaving a big hole in the area racing scene. But the folks at KRA Speedway decided to honor him by changing the name of the Fall Festival to the Charlie Nelson Fall Nationals. And hopefully we can continue to do this for many years to come. After some heavy rain hit the area on Thursday the show was backed up a day to start on Saturday and Sunday.Cary and Barry Schultz did an excellent job of getting the track ready and with some very wet pits parking was scattered thru out the fairgrounds. The WISSOTA Mods had a solid lineup with Don Eischens and Seth Brede sitting on the front row and Eischens made it pay leading all 20 laps for the win with Brede having tough luck dropping out 2 laps in.Shane Sabraski charged from 6th to finish 2nd and put some good pressure on Eischens the last couple of laps with Justin Oestreich grabbing 3rd.
The WISSOTA Super stock feature looked like a wide open battle but Tim Johnson took control early and never looked back for the win with Don Eischens passing Zach Schultz with 6 laps to go for 2nd ahead of Schultz and Chad Fouquette.
The race of the night was the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature as Nick Bruder took the early lead with Brandon Mehrwerth and Wade Skindelien going at it hard for 2nd,then with 4 laps to go Mehrwerth passed Skindelien for 2nd and a lap later went up top to get by Bruder to steal the win with Bruder 2nd and Jason Hoffman moving from 5th to 3rd on the last 2 laps.
The WISSOTA Street feature saw Justin Vogel and Danny Richards of Mondovi,Wi go head to head for all 18 laps with Vogel leading the first 8 laps before Richards passed him but on the next lap Vogel took the lead back for the win with Richards 2nd.The battle for 3rd was a dandy also as Brett Miller got by Eric Riley for 3rd with 6 laps left and with 2 laps to go Riley returned the favor to end up 3rd.
One racer that can really fly when he hits his setup is WISSOTA Mod IV pilot Adam Prieve and on this night he was on as he led the whole feature with Bob Holtquist staying close for 2nd followed by Tyler Larson and Dean Larson.
Matt Dittman dominated the the WISSOTA Hornet feature to pick up hid 8th win of the year at KRA with former champ Ashley Bell running 2nd .Corey Mehrwerth and Zach Schreder had a great battle for 3rd.
Joe Martin won the Pure Stock feature in a car he purchased late this summer.
